Ted Weekes Fund
The Ted Weekes fund was established in 2001 with a legacy from Ted Weekes to benefit young people in New Hartley and Seaton Sluice.
Applications are needed for the Ted Weekes Fund to support children and young people in New Hartley and Seaton Sluice. This fund makes annual awards to community projects in these 2 areas through the Community Foundation serving Tyne & Wear and Northumberland. Last year the committee awarded grants totalling £7,789 to six local organisations. This included a grant of £1,950 to New Hartley Community Association for NE Music Factory to work with young people on a music project using the latest technology.
The Fund brings to fruition plans made by Ted Weekes about a year before his death in December 2000. Knowing he was seriously ill, Ted met with the Community Foundation to set up a Fund to help young people in New Hartley and Seaton Sluice. Ted Weekes had a lifelong passion for education and was committed to providing the best opportunities for young people. About a year before his death, he decided to set up a special fund from his estate to benefit young people in New Hartley and Seaton Sluice.
