Hartley Colliery Pit Disaster Commemorative Glasses
New Hartley Community Association and Blyth Valley Arts and Leisure worked together to commission the National Glass Centre to recreate a memorial glass to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Hartley Colliery Pit Disaster of 16th January 1862.
Memorial Glasses are particular to North East England and were origionally intended to serve as a reminder to families of those who had died. The 100 limited edition glasses are an exact replica and stand today as a reminder of the many lives across the world saved as a result of changes made following the disaster.
Each glass has been handmade and etched by glass makers Christine Keers and Kathryn Wightman based at the National Glass Centre, Sunderland.
The limited edition glasses are available to purchase. All proceeds will go towards the upkeep of the Hartley Pit Disaster Memorial Garden situated in the village of New Hartley.
Each glass comes with a presentation box and information card and are for sale for £45. If posting is required this will cost an additional £3.50
The glasses will be sold on a first come first serve basis and due to expected high demand there is a limit of one glass per person.
